Meet Emily Lockhart, PLC’s new Head of Lighthouse Curriculum!

Prior to joining PLC as Head of Lighthouse Curriculum, Emily worked as Head of Health and Physical Education for many years. She has also worked as a Lecturer (Masters of Teaching courses).

Previously, Emily was the Health Officer of the WA State Board of the Australian Council for Health, Physical Education and Recreation (ACHPER) and has been the Association of Independent Schools of Western Australia (AISWA) representative on Course Advisory Committee at The School Curriculum and Standards Authority for several years.

What would you like to achieve at PLC this year?

I am currently working on developing a ‘Lighthouse Curriculum’ which will detail all the work PLC does from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12 in the field of health and wellbeing. My goal is to finish this by the end of the year and ensure it is developmentally appropriate as it transitions students from early childhood, through childhood, into adolescence and then finally adulthood.

What is the best part of your job?

Working with young people to help make a difference in their lives. I love to hear their stories and give them advice as they develop and grow through their teenage years. The real joy comes from seeing students journey from childhood and graduate at the end of Year 12 as mature, well-rounded and resilient young people.

Who inspires you most?

My PhD supervisor inspires me the most; she has been my mentor for nearly 20 years (prior to her being my supervisor). She has shown me how to be a strong woman, both, at work and at home. I am inspired by her compassion and kindness to those around her, while being an inspirational leader, academic and friend. Having her in my life gives me the confidence to be strong, courageous and work hard, while being caring, showing empathy and kindness.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I love being with my family; traveling with them and seeing the amazing world we live in! From camping to international travel, I am happiest when I am exploring with my husband and two sons. My favourites include remote parts of WA, such as Esperance or Broome, and Bali and the USA.
