“Dance is an art that imprints on the soul.  It is with you every moment,
it expresses itself in everything you do.” – Shirley MacLaine

The Dance Programme at PLC is dynamic, rigorous and diverse. Both Curricular and Co-curricular opportunities offer an individualised approach for students interested in studying Dance.

The programme offers something for everyone, including those wanting to dance for enjoyment, or for creativity and fitness, or elite dancers aspiring to pursue Dance at tertiary level.

Curriculum Dance

In Senior School, the study of Dance aligns with the Australian Curriculum. Students may elect to participate in Dance from Years 7 – 12, with ATAR Dance being offered in Years 11 and 12. Over the course of Dance studies at PLC, students will have the opportunity to explore a wide variety of dance genres including, but not limited to, contemporary, classical ballet, jazz, hip hop and cultural dance styles.

The programme is designed to optimise the dancer’s technical skill, performance quality and conceptual and analytical ability. Students will develop an understanding of the choreographic process and explore dance theory, history and anatomy.

Co-curricular Dance

  • Junior School Dance

At PLC we offer Ballet classes to the Junior School which develops and promotes the art of expression, creativity and joy in moving to music. We cater to students from Pre-Primary through to Year 3.

  • Dance Collective

The Dance Collective offers a vibrant and fun-filled approach to consolidating technique for Years 7 – 9 students. Auditioned students are given the opportunity to develop their technical skill with expert tuition from guest teachers and choreographers in a variety of Dance styles.

  • Dance Company

Dance Company is PLC’s elite Dance ensemble. Every year, students from Years 9 – 12 are invited to audition for a place in the Company. Students in Dance Company have the opportunity to work with both local and international choreographers to produce innovative Dance works. Dance Company aims to further extend the technique of PLC dancers and set new levels of excellence in skill and performance. Company members perform at the PLC Dance Showcase and annual Speech Night and represent the school at the IGSSA Dance Festival.
