“Be the change you want to see in the world” – Mahatma Ghandi

The Summers Society was established to celebrate and recognise the generosity of our PLC community; our Summers Society members see the difference that their contributions make today.

Thanks to the philanthropic generosity and foresight of previous PLC generations, including founder Donald Carmichael and former Principal Dr Vera Summers, both of whom left a Bequest to PLC, our School offers contemporary learning spaces and opportunities for young women to achieve their true potential.

Old Collegians and current parents have continued the tradition of giving. Whether they have expressed their intention to leave a Bequest to PLC or have gifted more than $100,000 during their lifetime, these supporters have become valued members of our Summers Society.

Hon June Craig AM (Lynn 1947) is proud to have become the inaugural member and Patron of the Summers Society.

“The School has been sustained by the generosity of many past donors and benefactors. If it is to continue to develop, provide excellence in education, be a modern and progressive school that encourages girls to be independent learners, build upon their strengths and make a worthwhile contribution to their world, then PLC will need your help. The public commitment to bequeath to the PLC Foundation is my contribution to the future.”

In 2008, PLC received a generous bequest from former student Barbara Beard (1941). After discussion with the family it was decided that the money would fund a scholarship.

This prize was awarded to Tabitha Malet (Year 7) in 2011.

“For me, the Barbara Beard Scholarship was an amazing achievement. I found the concept that past students would be so generous astounding, and was genuinely amazed and honoured that, of all people, the school wanted me!

For me, PLC isn’t only a school, but a doorway to a future to be whoever I want to be. The rounded curriculum, amazing teachers and students and caring environment mean that each person has a chance to develop their talents and abilities, not only reaching their potential but increasing it a thousandfold.”

As we enter our second century the PLC Foundation look forward to welcoming more members into the Summers Society. If you would like more information on how to make a difference; please contact:
