Old Collegian joins the Order of Australia

Congratulations to PLC Old Collegian Jane Sanders (1983), on her appointment as a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in recognition of her exceptional service to the law, particularly in the realm of youth justice.

With over three decades of experience, Jane has been a driving force in advocating for the rights of young individuals and shaping legal discourse.

As the Principal Solicitor at The Shopfront Youth Legal Centre since 1993, Jane has provided invaluable legal assistance to countless young people, empowering them to navigate the legal system effectively.

Jane’s influence extends beyond her role at The Shopfront, as evidenced by her leadership positions in esteemed institutions such as The Law Society of New South Wales, where she currently chairs the Criminal Law Committee. Her dedication to human rights is further exemplified by her involvement in various boards and committees.

Throughout her career, Jane has received numerous awards and accolades, including the Terry Keaney Memorial Award for Criminal Law in 2014 and the Justice Medal from the New South Wales Law and Justice Foundation in 2008. Her commitment to pro-bono work and innovative approach to advocacy have earned her recognition from organisations such as the Sex Workers’ Outreach Project and the National Children’s and Youth Law Centre.

Jane’s appointment as a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) is a testament to her enduring legacy as a champion of youth justice and a beacon of inspiration within the legal profession.
