    Kinder Karate (Pre-Kindergarten – Year 3)

    Run by O2 Active, Kinder Karate combines basic martial arts and gymnastics skills, co-ordination development and healthy play. Children will learn about safe karate movements while improving their self-confidence and ability to focus. They will also be taught about being calm and confident, the importance of personal boundaries, stranger danger and how to avoid dangerous situations.

    No uniforms or costumes are required; just comfortable clothes they can easily move in.

    Jazz Dance (Kindergarten – Year 1)

    Run by O2 Active, students will learn jazz dancing moves as seen on pop video clips and in musical theatre. In this fun and upbeat class, students will develop co-ordination, confidence, good posture and further their musical awareness. The focus of the class is to develop a love of dance and movement. There are no exams and all children will receive a participation certificate at the end of the term. We will feature an ‘end of term parent open day’ at the end of each term.

    Acrobatics (Years 3 – 6)

    Run by O2 Active, Acrobatics combines dance and gymnastics-based skills, teaching students balance, strength, flexibility, tumbling and co-ordination through a variety of drills and routines. Through fitness and fun, the progressions take the acrobat from the basic level of log rolls and summersaults to the advanced dancer tumbling and turning across the floor. Afternoon tea will be provided to students each afternoon.

    Yoga Bears (Pre-Primary – Year 3)

    Run by O2 Active, Yoga Bears develops spatial awareness; igniting imagination, building trust, and exploring confidence and a positive mindset. Children will develop strength, balance, co-ordination and awareness of their breath, bodies, thoughts and emotions. Yoga Bears will also help them learn about respect for each other’s space and trusting friends.

    Run by O2 Active, this classical ballet-based creative movement class introduces pre-schoolers to ballet using dance, imagination and creative movement. The programme is designed to build co-ordination, balance, musicality and gross motor skills to the sounds of classical, nursery and children’s music. Children will have fun whilst developing a love of dance and movement. No uniforms required, children are asked to wear comfortable clothes they can move in, fairy costumes allowed.     Junior Jui Jitsu (Years 4 – 6)

    Run by O2 Active, this programme will teach your child Brazillian Jui Jitsu at an appropriate level of contact for their maturity and physical development. Skills learnt will include the art of Jui Jitsu, balance, body awareness, fitness and strength in addition to building life skills such as discipline, respect, honour, leadership and self confidence. Taught by Jess, who holds a second dan black belt in Taekwondo and is trained in mixed martial arts (MMA), kickboxing and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ). She recently won gold at the 2016 Gi State Championships for BJJ and gold again in the lightweight and absolute divisions at the Nogi State Championships in 2017. Jess loves to watch her students improve their skills, confidence and self-esteem through the practice. The lessons learnt on the mat then flow into their everyday which can be life changing.

    Hip Hop/Lyrical/Contemporary Dance (Years 3 – 6)

    Run by O2 Active, Lyrical Dance blends many forms of dance and movement; teaching students Musical Theatre techniques, dance combinations and movements that are generally faster than Ballet but smoother than Jazz. Dances and routines will be performed to modern songs which include lyrics. Choreography will be inspired by the emotion of the lyrics.

    Colour My World (Years 5 – 6)

    Run by PLC Lead Psychologist, Daleen Engelbrecht, Colour My World is a creative group activity that promotes physical and emotional wellbeing through expressive art activities. There is mounting evidence showing that engaging in art activities can be helpful to reduce stress and encourages self-expression through painting, drawing and 3D artwork.

    Boxilates (Years 7 – 12 & open to parents/staff)

    Run by O2 Active, Boxilates combines boxing and pilates to challenge strength, co-ordination, flexibility and gets the heart rate up. It is an interval-style workout that switches between cardio boxing and slow, controlled Pilates core exercises. The class is positive and uplifting.

    Run by O2 Active, this class will get your heart rate pumping. The class starts with a warmup and then goes through the basics—jabs, hooks, uppercuts— along with how to successfully duck a punch. After learning the skills, you partner up and try the new moves out with some conditioning and interval training, as well as an ab workout.

    Meditation (Years 11 – 12)

    Run by PLC teacher, Lesley Kaye, Mindfulness Meditation aims to equip PLC students with the tools to manage their wellbeing and reduce the impacts of stress and anxiety. Mindfulness meditation at PLC is taught over the course of 9 weeks and comprises one 45-minute session per week, as well as a recommended home practice of 5-10 minutes per day.

    The following content will be covered during the 9-week co-curricular opportunity:

    • Introduction to mindfulness.
    • Mindfulness and the power of being present.
    • Paying attention to the breath.
    • Paying attention to sensations, thoughts and feelings as they arise in the body.

    7-Week Challenge (Years 10 – 12)

    Run by O2 Active – reset your mind and body into positive active living! Each week your mentor will take you for a functional 45-minute training session followed by a 10-minute session to help you set your weekly fitness and health goals. Your mentor will set you some body and mind challenges to complete with your fellow team members.

    Tai Chi (Years 7 – 12 & open to parents/staff)

    A 5-week programme introducing the benefits of Tai Chi and Chi Kung, delivered with effective technique and exploring related cultural activities which enhance the practice.

    Health benefits of Tai Chi include: strengthening and flexibility of joints (ankles, knees, hips, back, shoulders etc) and improved balance.  It is anti-aging – skin improves and practitioners look younger the result of improved blood and respiratory circulation, improved digestion, and sleep.

    Tai Chi is a moving meditation. The calming effect mitigates stress and all of this adds up to improved immunity. Chi Kung predates Tai Chi and is incorporated into all Tai Chi as it enhances the effectiveness – internal strength, energy and recovery. These practices support brain growth and function – the ability to learn, memory, perceptions, process and fine/gross motor skills.

    Keys for Life – Safe Driver Skills (Years 10 – 12)

    A driver’s licence is one of the most valuable privileges anyone can have. The Keys for Life programme is an evidence-based pre-driver programme that empowers young people to make informed decisions about safer driving. Students successfully completing the Keys for Life programme are provided with the opportunity to undertake the Learner’s Permit Test at school. Those who pass are granted exemptions for the Learner’s Permit application process by the WA Department of Transport.

    The PLC Keys for Life programme will run over six Wednesday afternoons, one weekend morning (tbc based on participant’s preferred time and day) and one evening session for students and parents, presented by RAC.

    The lessons each week cover various aspects of driving, including, driver responsibilities, road safety facts, how to reduce the risk of an accident, decision making, drugs and alcohol and more. The weekend morning session will be a practical session on the road involving either Mr Sullivan driving the bus and students taking turns spotting hazards from the front seat, or we might be able to organise a driving lesson for each student.

    Dance Club (Years 7 – 10)

    Dance Club offers a vibrant and fun-filled approach to consolidating technique. Students are given the opportunity to develop their technical skill with expert tuition from guest teacher and choreographer Jacqui Hume, in a variety of dance styles. As an accredited Pilates instructor and dance teacher, Jacqui has taught for Buzz Dance Theatre, Strut Dance, WAAPA and Link Dance Company as well as many dance schools, high schools and Pilates schools across Perth. In each class students will learn/practice dance technique, work on flexibility as well as learn extended dance sequences in a fun, relaxed environment.
