PLC Perth is proud to share that Dr. Megan Clark AC (1975), officially took on the role of Chancellor at Monash University in July 2024, becoming the first woman to hold this prestigious position.
Dr. Clark’s appointment comes in recognition of her exceptional career and significant contributions to science, technology, and public service in Australia. A leading figure in the field, she was the inaugural Head of the Australian Space Agency, where she helped shape the future of space exploration from 2018 to 2020 and later chaired its advisory board. Before that, she led Australia’s renowned scientific organisation, the CSIRO, driving innovation and research excellence during her tenure.
A recipient of numerous honours, including the Companion of the Order of Australia in 2014 for eminent service to scientific research, Dr. Clark is a celebrated leader in her field. Her academic achievements include a first-class honours degree from the University of Western Australia and a PhD in Economic Geology from Queen’s University, Canada. Her appointment as Chancellor reflects her deep expertise and dedication to advancing knowledge and education.
Dr. Clark joined the Monash University Council in 2015 and became Deputy Chancellor in 2021. Her unanimous selection as Chancellor highlights the confidence placed in her to guide the university through the next phase of its strategic plan, Impact 2030. With her extensive leadership experience across science, industry, and governance, she is well-positioned to help Monash continue its upward trajectory as one of the world’s leading universities.
Reflecting on her new role, Dr. Clark expressed her commitment to Monash’s future, saying, “It is a great privilege to step into the role of Chancellor. I’ve witnessed Monash’s growth and achievements firsthand, and I look forward to working closely with the Council and our new Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sharon Pickering, to build on this strong foundation.”
