First things first: We recognise that any change in life can be exciting but also a little challenging and it is important to feel connected.

At PLC we have a well-developed and extensive transition process that begins long before your daughter arrives. Our aim is to get to know her and for her to feel comfortable and familiar with the school and key staff. Our programmes are designed to ensure your daughter is excited about joining us!

With this in mind, all girls and their families are invited to meet with the Head of School prior to entry. For new Year 7 girls, we facilitate connections between the girls and with key staff at school through our innovative online ‘OurSpace’ programme. This is also the case with ABC@PLC, (All aBout Connections), a programme that prepares Year 7 and 8 boarders by connecting them to each other and to the School through a weekly online lesson.

Feeling a sense of belonging is crucial and we ensure connections are established for all girls prior to entry, in all year groups. Of course, there is no replacement for face-to-face connections and our Orientation and Welcome Days are essential and exciting opportunities to ensure girls feel like they are part of our community.

Specifically for Year 7s, we also launch our pastoral care programme, entitled ‘Sparks’, at the start of the year with a whole day immersion. ‘Sparks’ is a co-ordinated suite of programmes designed to help each girl find her inner spark and keep it ‘glowing’. We also host a family barbeque for Year 7 families at the start of the year and a sleep-over at school for the girls, which is followed up with their Outdoor Education programme in Term 1. Together, these activities help girls settle in and start to feel a part of the PLC family.
