Is your child meeting the Australian Physical Activity Recommendations each week?

For 5 – 17 year old children, the Department of Health recommends:

  • Accumulating 60 minutes or more of moderate to vigorous physical activity per day involving mainly aerobic activities. School sport or our aerobic based fitness classes are a great way to meet these guidelines;
  • Several hours of a variety of light physical activities – this may be playing and moving outdoors with friends or helping out with housework at home;
  • Activities that are vigorous, as well as those that strengthen muscle and bone should be incorporated into your child’s routine for at least 3 days per week. Often these are incorporated into team sport training sessions. Otherwise, check in with the Lighthouse as we run a range of classes, including yoga, pilates and strength based fitness classes. Year 10-12’s have the option for one of the Lighthouse strength and conditioning coaches to create a personalised training program for them. To make a booking, please speak to the Lighthouse reception; and
  • To achieve greater health benefits, replacing sedentary time with additional moderate to vigorous physical activity, while preserving sufficient sleep.

The start of the Term has seen the Lighthouse buzzing with both student and staff activity. Browse the full range of extracurricular fitness, dance and movement activities for students from Kindy to Year 12 on the Lighthouse website.
