Fergo wins, Pfeiffer breaks records

Ferguson was in red-hot form at the 2019 Inter-House Athletics Carnival, on Tuesday 18 June, claiming the coveted Mills Family Athletics Trophy for Overall Champion House.

A strong team effort, and a handful of outstanding individual performances, saw Fergo win both The Inverarity Inter-House Athletics Trophy (Years 7 – 9) and the Senior School Inter-House Athletics Trophy (Years 10 – 12). They won the overall trophy with a score of 1101, 110 points clear of second placed Baird (991 points), and third placed McNeil (968). Stewart finished the carnival in fourth place, on 995 points, ahead of Carmichael (804 points), Summers (756 points), and Ross (607 points).

Near perfect weather conditions contributed towards a record-breaking day at the WA Athletics Stadium, with a total of six records broken. Year 9 Champion, Annie Pfeiffer (Ferguson), showed why she’s a future track star, breaking four records: Year 9 200 metres (C Jenkinson, 1989, Summers), Year 9 100 metres (N Kennedy, 2011, Stewart), Year 9 400 metres (A Spencer, 2018, Ferguson) and Year 9 Long Jump (C Jenkinson, 1989, Summers). Ashley Spencer (Ferguson), was the other standout performer, breaking two records: Year 10 90 metre Hurdles (T Fischer, 2015, McNeil) and Year 10 400 metres (C Van der Walt, 2008, Baird), and finished the Carnival as Year 10 Champion.

Of the 12 girls who received either Champion or Runner Up Champion, half were from Ferguson. Stewart had three individual award-winners, while Baird, Carmichael and McNeil had one each.

While Ferguson had a near flawless day on the track, Marching Champions went to Baird, who were the clear winners, ahead of Carmichael and Ferguson.
