Performing Arts Scholarships are available to both current and prospective students entering Years 7 – 10 in 2024.

The successful recipient(s) will be selected based upon evidence of outstanding ability in Drama, Dance and/or Musical Theatre.

Please ensure that if you are applying for a Performing Arts Scholarship that you have also registered for the Academic testing being held on Saturday 11 February 2023.

Terms of a Performing Arts Scholarship

The award of a Performing Arts Scholarship covers partial remission of academic tuition fees through to the completion of Year 12. It is expected that Performing Arts Scholarship holders will take every opportunity to involve themselves in the Performing Arts, both within the PLC curriculum as well as the co-curricular programme.

The Scholarship award is subject to the recipient:

  • selecting classroom Dance and/or Drama as an elective in Years 9 and 10;
  • maintaining a high level of achievement in her chosen area of Performing Arts study;
  • being fully supportive and contributing to the performing arts at PLC, including participation in school productions on stage and off;
  • demonstrating a conscientious approach to the academic programme, and
  • demonstrating a positive contribution to the School community.

Costs not covered by the Scholarship include the remainder of the tuition fees, the technology fee, uniform, music lessons and instrumental hire, excursions and co-curricular activities.

Performing Arts Scholarships

Eligibility

PLC welcomes applications from girls who will be in Years 7 – 10 in 2024 at PLC or any other school. Candidates must be a citizen or permanent resident of Australia.

How to Apply

PLC welcomes applications from passionate and enthusiastic performers who enjoy being involved in a creative process and who wish to actively participate in the Performing Arts programme at PLC.

At the time of online registration, the following documents will need to be uploaded:

  • Copies of relevant references, exams or reports relating to the Performing Arts;
  • A brief handwritten summary from the candidate outlining her involvement, achievements and experience in Theatre, Drama and/or Dance.

All applicants must be available to sit the academic testing on Saturday 11 February 2023 at 8.30 am. Based on the applications submitted, some applicants will be invited to audition on Thursday 23 February 2023.

Audition Requirements

Invited candidates must be suitably prepared for their audition on Thursday 23 February 2023.

Drama applicants will be required to present a suitable solo monologue audition piece of no more than three minutes in length. Applicants are encouraged to present their character using costumes/make-up. To enhance the dramatic journey, sound can also be used. Upon completion of the audition, there will be a short interview process discussing the applicant’s interests in the Performing Arts.

Dance applicants will be required to present a suitable solo audition piece of no more than two minutes and thirty seconds in length. The piece should be performed by the applicant in a dance genre of their choosing, showcasing and including various technical skills listed below. Applicants are required to bring in their music as a backing track on a USB. Upon completion of the audition, there will be a short interview process discussing the applicant’s interests in the Performing Arts.

Technical skills should include:

  • Pirouettes
  • Kicks/grand battements/high brushes
  • Leaps/grand jetè
  • Any specialist skills

Musical Theatre applicants are required to prepare and present two contrasting musical theatre songs. During the audition, demonstration and application of characterisation should be presented whilst singing. Applicants are required to bring in their music as a backing track on a USB. Upon completion of the audition, there will be a short interview process discussing the applicant’s interests in the Performing Arts.
