Gorna Liyarn Indigenous Scholarship Programme.
We are very proud of our successful Indigenous Programme at PLC.
With the help of the Indigenous Advancement Strategy (IAS) and the Australian Indigenous Education Foundation (AIEF) PLC will proudly support twenty nine Indigenous students in 2017. The name “Gorna Liyarn” is derived from the Bardi and Yawuru languages of the west Kimberley and translates to “strong heart” or “strong spirit”. This is a name that epitomises the way in which the girls navigate their journey from home to PLC and beyond.
The girls add so much to our school community through sharing culture and raising awareness of Indigenous issues. Each year we celebrate National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee (NAIDOC) Week, Reconciliation Week, National Close the Gap Day, and Sorry Day. The girls also have their own Gorna Liyarn Dance Group and perform at many community events.
