In celebration of our amazing teaching staff, we will be showcasing a staff member each week.
This week we feature Toni Jefferies, Director of Curriculum Services.
Toni has been at PLC for 21 years, starting out as a teacher in the Learning Enrichment Centre for Mathematics before moving into the Mathematics Department and taking on the role of Stewart House Adviser. Toni then became Assistant to the Deputies where she gained experience in timetabling and managing School resources.
Prior to joining PLC, Toni gained a wide variety of experience in a number of roles including Personal Assistant to a CEO, working in a Garden Centre, owner of a Laundromat and waitressing. She also spent a lot of time travelling and trekking and, as a result of her diverse background, Toni brings honesty and real-life experience to PLC.
In her current position, Toni is responsible for the construction and maintenance of the Senior School Timetable and from 2011 has worked with Scotch College to formulate a Year 11 and 12 Timetables facilitate cross-campus classes, which enable students to have more options in their subject selections.
What inspires you?
The image of young people engaged in the world beyond teaching and classrooms as well as the power of happiness, new projects and the challenge of reaching your potential. I am also inspired by my beautiful son.
What is important to you as a teacher?
To connect with and encourage students to look past their self-perceived abilities to achieve their personal best. I also like to make them smile.
What are you working on at the moment?
Changing the layout of the PLC reports and the Timetable for 2018. Developing a timetable that delivers personalised educational programmes for our students can be complex and perplexing and I love the problem solving involved with this process.
