The Summers Society

The tradition of philanthropy began at PLC with a bequest from Dr Vera Summers, former Principal of PLC. The Summers Society has been established to thank graduates and supporters who continue this tradition by making a bequest to the PLC Foundation.

Should you favour the PLC Foundation with a bequest, or have supported the School with a donation of a $100,000 or more, we would welcome the opportunity to show our appreciation for your gift and keep you informed of the College’s developments by admitting you to the Summers Society.

Members will have opportunities to experience the difference their support makes to the students of PLC by being invited to attend significant College functions.

Thank you to the members of the Summers Society who are ensuring that future generations of PLC students will continue to benefit from the modern and progressive school that so many others have enjoyed and benefitted from.

PLC greatly appreciates the supporters of the School who assist in allowing the College to embrace opportunities and face challenges as a leading educator of young women.

For further information on how you can make a difference to PLC in the future by making a gift in your Will, please click here or contact the Development Co-ordinator, Joanne Beedie for a confidential discussion on 9424 6534 or jbeedie@plc.wa.edu.au

Testimonial

I am proud to be the inaugural member of the Summers Society.

In 1943 I became a student at PLC. Dr Summers was the Principal throughout the five years of my attendance. I remember her as a woman totally committed to the education of ‘her girls’, strict but fair, passionate about French, with a strong belief that we should all be treated equally.

Dr Summers’ bequest to the School was the catalyst for PLC to embark on a fundraising venture. Buildings were in need of maintenance, better amenities and facilities necessary to meet rapid changes in the education of girls.

My involvement with PLC spans some 66 years as a student, parent and grandparent and as a member of the Old Collegians’ Association (rural representative), School Council and Foundation. There have been many changes and exciting developments in education over that time.

The School has been sustained by the generosity of many past donors and benefactors. If it is to continue to develop, provide excellence in education, be a modern and progressive school that encourages girls to be independent learners, build upon their strengths and make a worthwhile contribution to their world, then PLC will need your help.

The public commitment to bequeath to the PLC Foundation is my contribution to the future. I see it as a way of supporting the generosity of past donors and at the same time giving to the future of the girls and the School.

Will you join me in contributing to the future students of PLC by becoming a member of the Summers Society? Together we can help ensure the Foundation has a sound financial base for the School to operate from.
